Rotating 36/48, 12 hour DAY shift 5 am – 5 pm
Summary: Provides structured training for Packers on the shift; evaluates employee’s progress and provides status on individuals ability, progress and needs to shift supervision. Ensures that training is uniform and consistent. Is able to perform all the functions of the Packer position (see Packer job description). Works as a Packer until training of other shift employees is necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs structured training in a classroom or hands-on setting for all new Packers on the shift.Some examples of training to be performed:
- How to remove parts from machines/stackers and pack properly in cartons
- How to verify piece counts
- How to verify proper packaging of product (i.e.,polybags, partitions, etc.)
- Where to find and how to read the Quality Standard
- How to perform the In Process Inspection, Functional testing and to complete appropriate documents.
- Where and how to document the In Process Inspection results
- When and why to fill out the Work Center Event Record
- MDT system – When, how, and why to enter data.
- Proper down code button pushed
- Confers with Manufacturing Shift Supervisor or Production Lead to schedule training of personnel.
- Collaborates with Manufacturing Shift Supervisor or Production Lead to understand training needs. Works with developed lesson plans and teaching aids such as PowerPoint presentations, training handbooks, demonstration models, visual aids.
- Reviews, evaluates trainee’s performance and administers tests to determine if there is a need for further training or if the trainee is ready to work on his/her own.
- Report on progress of trainees to Supervisor or Lead.
- Conducts refresher training when needed.
- Ensure training records are completed
- Will work as a Packer when no specific training is needed. Will assist with Packer breaks.
- Promotes Product Safety and Quality standards
- Promotes GMP’s with regards to food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee
- Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Practices good housekeeping including clutter-free work area and general cleaning; follows FDA product safety standards, follows IPC product defense standards and complies with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements
- Ensures lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least one (1) year knowledge and experience as a Packer for Inline Plastics Corp. is required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Must be able to communicate on a one-on-one basis or in-group situations, understand instructions and follow SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- While performing this job in a twelve (12) hour shift, the employee is frequently required to stand, move around or sit (an adjustable chair is provided).
- Frequent physical activities include lifting, reaching, bending and twisting, as well as gross manual dexterity tasks. During an inspection phase, occasional fine motor tasks are required.
- Maximum arm lift is 22 lbs. frequently; 22 to 50 lbs. occasionally. This combined with bending and twisting occurs frequently (every 3 1/2 minutes throughout the shift). This task occurs more frequently when assigned to the Lyle machine.
- This job does not involve repetitive motion by design, but observation notes that some employees by habit perform tasks in such a manner that repetitive motion occurs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
