Northrop Grumman is seeking a motivated professional to join our team as Sr. Principal Military Trainer – Corps Exercise Planner. The location of this position is at Fort Hood, Texas. The Sr. Principal Military Trainer – Corps Exercise Planner will review, interpret and implement directives from higher Headquarters. Coordinate such directives with staff sections and units concerned. Plans, coordinates, and prepares exercise directives, memorandum of instruction, and after action reports in support of major exercises. Exercises include Corps and Division computer simulated Command Post exercises (i.e., MCTP Warfighters, Joint CPX, etc.), and exercise deployments (to Kuwait, Korea, etc.). Conducts analysis of mission and program goals and exercise training objectives of importance to III Corps, FORSCOM, DA, USACOM, other CINCs, NGB, USARC. Recommends and promulgates the III Corps position as it pertains to the initial exercise design concept (i.e. type of exercise, location and dates of exercise, purpose, objectives, troop lists, and programmed funding level) to determine III Corps support for each exercise. Organizes, trains, manages and supervises III Corps ad hoc exercise planning and working groups comprised of technical experts from other staff directorates to resolve issues and problems arising out of the development, planning and successful execution of assigned exercises. Represents III Corps at planning conferences, workshops, briefings, and in process reviews, with the Joint Staff, HQDA and other services, the unified commands, allied combined headquarters, the designated FAA, and partnership nations (for PFP exercises). Maintains a working knowledge of the organizational structure, contingency plans, troop lists, and exercise schedules of sponsoring commands. Keeps current on types of JTXs and on war-gaming simulation systems developed to support training exercises assigned to III Corps. Prepares and presents briefings to the Corps Commander and staff outlining plans, concepts, objectives, and goals associated with exercises. Assumes primary staff responsibility for planning, and executing exercises involving III Corps units. Coordinates exercise plans with the Corps directorates, other installation staffs, FORSCOM staffs and joint staffs (CENTCOM, etc.). Plans and coordinates support from Active Duty and Reserve Component assets. Provides guidance and assistance to other staff officers in exercise execution. Assumes staff responsibility for developing budget estimates and maintaining exercise budget while serving as the FORSCOM Action Agent on all exercises. Develops exercise programs for a six fiscal year period de-conflicting schedules synchronized with the Corps Master Events Calendar to insure executable exercises. Responsible for administrative and logistical requirements to move, train, and sustain exercise participants.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience or Master’s Degree with 8 years’ experience
  • Must possess an active Secret Security Clearance
  • Graduate of Command and General Staff College (CGSC) or Intermediate Level Education (ILE)
  • Knowledge of joint campaign planning and joint structure
  • Served as an Army battalion or brigade operations officer or executive officer
  • Knowledge of Corps and Division tactics, use of military graphics, tactical terms and acronyms
  • Knowledge of process to prepare Combat Operations
  • Knowledge of currently used simulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree
  • Operations experience on the III Corps staff
  • Graduate of the US Army War College or equivalent
  • Active TS clearance
