Shift: Full time, Days

Reporting to the Rehab Services Manager with accountability to the Director and Team, performs a variety of patient related activities and clerical duties assigned by a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Speech/Language Pathologist, and/or Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer. The word “therapist”, as used in this job description, refers to all of the above-mentioned positions.

1. Assists therapist with patient set-up prior to treatment and with equipment removal following treatment. Provides support and assistance in various patient treatment activities.

2. Communicates treatment effects and changes in patient condition to the therapist.

3. Maintains department equipment, supplies and accessories. Cleans all equipment, maintains logs and checks equipment condition. Performs inventory control of departmental supplies and equipment.

4. Performs various clerical tasks which may include: filing medical records and patient documentation, retrieving medical records for HIM/EHS/PFS and copying records for requesting departments. Copies and faxes documentation to physicians and maintains log book. Prepares folders for therapy staff and envelopes for mailing and departmental correspondence.

5. Orders and maintains linen supplies, changes linens as needed and removes linen bags at end of day and/or as needed. (OP only)

6. Utilizes correct body mechanics. Adheres to hospital and departmental safety precautions and infection control procedures in order to maintain a safe patient care and working environment. Attends all mandatory inservices.

7. Transports patients to and from the therapy treatment areas.

8. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies and procedures.

In Patient

1. Coordinates therapists’ daily caseloads.

2. Sets up needed equipment and supplies for video fluoroscopic swallow studies. May also assist with feeding under direct supervision of Speech Language Pathologist.

3. Assists radiology technologist in transferring patients on and off of specialized chair for video fluoroscopic swallow studies. Follows radiation safety guidelines while in the radiology department.


1. The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of four years of high school, or the equivalent.

2. CPR certification from American Heart Association.

3. Knowledge of basic clerical procedures such as typing and filing.

4. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, their families and other hospital personnel, and to direct the work of volunteers.

5. The communication skills necessary to interact with co-workers, patients, their families and other hospital personnel in a professional manner.

6. The written skills necessary to document pertinent patient and departmental information.

7. The ability to utilize a personal computer as deemed necessary to perform job duties.

1. Requires continuous lifting or moving of average weight material, frequent lifting or moving of heavy weight material, and occasional lifting or moving of heavy material in difficult work positions. May require considerable physical effort.

2. Flow of work and character of duties involves normal visual, mental and auditory attention along with manual coordination.
