Position overview:
The Fitness Director (FD), plays a significant role in the company’s overall success by:

  • Achieving and exceeding revenue projections for the Fitness and Aquatics departments, as well as assisting in strategizing how to exceed Group Exercise participation
  • Provide members and guests with legendary service and enhancing their sense of belonging and community within the club.
  • The FD is expected to work a variety of early morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, special event, and holiday shifts. Expectations are for an average 45 hour week which (tbd by specific club) are for administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all exercise, testing, nutrition, and educational components of Fitness
  • Develop and implement systems ensuring the following

A) Keeping efficient staffing models within the budget for personal trainers and aquatic instructors
B) Procedures stay updated for both Fitness and Aquatics Departments

  • Perform M.O.D role in rotation with other key staff
  • Oversee all aspects of managing systems pertaining to both Fitness and Aquatics Departments. This includes but is not limited to:

– Hiring, training, and termination of fitness coaches and swim instructors
– Evaluation process (30,60,90, anniversary date)
– Maintaining accurate personnel files
– Continuous mentoring/training of current staff
– Participate, with GM, in the creation of annual budget. Once complete, monitor and report weekly/monthly goals. Report to be submitted to GM/owner weekly by given time
– Handling and submitting accurate weekly payroll by given time and dates
– Perform annual staff evaluations and suggest wage changes, if any
– Reviewing and coaching thru daily productivity sheet review
– Compassionately respond to member service issues that arise
– Be a first responder in Fitness and Aquatics
– Maintain appropriate certification and training for all PT staff (CPR, Emergency procedures and PT Cert.)
– Assure uniform compliance
– Collaborate with Sales Manager to ensure every new member has a welcoming call within a week of joining the facility
– Ensure each PT client has paid and signed-off on waivers and contracts
– Arrange departmental staff meetings to prepare for fall (Sept/October), for winter (December) and for summer (Aril/May). Meetings will ensure communication of goals, team building, training, and revenue development for Fitness and Aquatics offerings
– Develop and maintain staff schedule, ensuring adequate floor coverage at all times, oversee staff requests for paid/non-paid days off, emergency fill-ins, rescheduling based on usage and schedule changes
– Assure all flyer racks, website information, program schedules, and marketing materials up to date
– Perform any other reasonably related task as assigned by the GM or owner

Qualifications:

Degree in a fitness, physical education, recreation, exercise physiology or related field and a Personal Training Certification by a nationally recognized certifying organization

  • Current C.P.R, AED and First Aid certifications
  • 3 years of demonstrable management experience in the fitness or recreation field
  • Experience with creating and managing budgets, profit and loss management, revenue generation and people management
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other applications

Physical demands include ability to walk through all areas of clubs, climbing stairs (where applicable), repetitive squatting, bending and lifting (e.g., 40 . 60 lbs.), restacking of weights, moving of equipment as necessary and ability to demonstrate other exercise movements as part of a personal fitness workout
