Campus Rec–Group Fitness Instructor

Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for preparing and teaching group fitness classes to culturally and physically diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members.

Responsibilities include:

Individual class preparation

Teaching fitness classes

Equipment maintenance and inventory

Fitness room organization and storage maintenance

Promotion of Campus Recreation programs, fitness center, and fitness/dance classes through marketing, social media, word of mouth, etc.

Track fitness participant attendance

Risk management and participant safety Motivate fitness class participants

Required Qualifications

Must be current or incoming CSS undergraduate or graduate student.
CPR/AED or First Aid certified or take Campus Rec’s mandatory certification within 1 month of start date.

Able to lift 25 pounds unassisted.

Previous participation in group fitness classes or organized sports.

Experience teaching/coaching a minimum of one group fitness class/sport or personal training.

Availability to teach a minimum of one fitness class per semester for one year.

Effective verbal communication, strong leadership skills, and the physical ability to demonstrate class exercises.

Preferred Qualifications

Exercise Physiology, human anatomy/physiology, and biomechanics knowledge.

Certifications in NETA, ACE, ACSM, AFAA or similar.

Availability to teach a one-hour class a minimum of two days per week.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Students are required to attend the CSS Group Fitness Instructor training program in the fall (dates to be determined). After successful completion, the student will commit to teach a minimum of one class per semester for 3 semesters.

Fitness and Dance Instructors are strongly encouraged to attend the NETA Group Exercise, Yoga, and/or Personal Training Certifications that CSS is hosting in the fall. For more information on attaining a NETA certification, visit http://www.netafit.org/certification/index.htm.
