    Duties

    Summary

    Provide continuous surveillance of patrons and enforce rules to create a safe and fun environment at the pool.

    Responsibilities

    Provide continuous surveillance of patrons and enforce rules to create a safe and fun environment at the pool. Teach American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Incumbent assists with business operations and helps develop schedules, assign swim lessons and input schedules into time keeping system. Assists with Facility Maintenance, by conducting regular inspections and audits of the pool and chemical rooms. Oversees completion of weekly cleaning logs and performs backwashes and other chemical adjustments as necessary. Coordinates and oversees planned recreation programs including swim lessons, water aerobics, command PT and specialty programs. Distributes and monitors the completion of work by employees. Ensures there are written guidelines for completing work. Ensures employees are provided with all necessary training and equipment. Assists with the planning and execution of in-service trainings and lifeguarding/CPR recertification. Assists with the supervision of personnel in the absence of the facility manager.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Incumbent must be able to work evenings and weekends. Work is primarily performed indoors. Work environment varies by season and may be completed under warm, muggy conditions during the summer and cool damp conditions during winter months.
    • May be required to work in a wet uniform when a dry one is not readily available. Work may include extended hours of sitting and standing and prolonged hours in the pool during swim lessons or other activities.
    • Involves frequent lifting or pulling of pool equipment, cleaning supplies and program participants.
    • Applicant must be able to complete a 250 yard swim in less than five minutes and regularly demonstrate the ability to rescue victims of various sizes. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

    Qualifications

    Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have minimum of three years’ experience as a Water Safety Instructor. Must hold current certification in the following: Lifeguard training or equivalent, Water Safety Instruction, nationally recognized CPR certification for lifeguard rescuer and First Aid. Must be able to obtain Lifeguard Instructor, Water Aerobics/Group Fitness Instructor and CPO/AFO within 12 months of employment. Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must possess an outgoing personality to include tact and diplomacy in dealing with communicating with people to influence and obtain cooperation and assistance. Possess the skill to properly influence and lead groups or teams. Must be able to understand both oral and written instructions provided by supervisor. Must possess the ability to render decisions and resolve problems. Must possess excellent organizational skills.

    Education

    Must have minimum of three years’ experience as a Water Safety Instructor. Must hold current certification in the following: Lifeguard training or equivalent, Water Safety Instruction, nationally recognized CPR certification for lifeguard rescuer and First Aid. Must be able to obtain Lifeguard Instructor, Water Aerobics/Group Fitness Instructor and CPO/AFO within 12 months of employment

    Additional information

    Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
