At the direction of the Aquatics Directors, assists in the planning and operations of the aquatics department and programs, including staff supervision, program development, and planning.
Ability to train swim instructors and Lifeguards. Excellent communication and public relations skills. Familiarity with personal computers helpful. Requires trainer-level certified in YMCA Swim Lessons (or ability to complete all required training within the first 60 days of employment): Teaching Swimming Fundamentals, YMCA Swim Lessons-Youth & Adult and/or YMCA Swim Lessons-Parent/Child and Preschool Instructor, Adapted Lessons, Water Fitness Instructor, Pool Operator on Location, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications required. Prefer Trainer Certification in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for assisting in the administration of aquatic functions, including but not limited to swim lessons, private swim lessons, adaptive lessons, swim team, Park South Academy swim lessons , aquatic classes, lifeguards, swim instructors, members, program members and the physical pool and pool equipment. Will supervise 7-17 part time staff to ensure program success. Will assist in volunteer development and recruitment, as well assisting with the departmental budget and payroll. Responsible for creating schedules for guarding/ swim lessons (group/private), covering swim lessons/guarding/coaching of swim team, when staff if not available, handling pool issues in and around pool area to include backwashing, chemicals and general concerns; customer service. Schedule will include some weekdays, nights, and weekends. Schedule will vary depending on program needs. Working on a Saturday will be a mandatory schedule.
